G. Aivazian: I am sure Alieyev considers us his chief rival
Grigory Aivzian, the chairman of the Assembly of Azerbaijani Armenians who has nominated himself as a candidate in the upcoming presidential elections in Azerbaijan, hopes to receive no less than 60% of votes.
“It is necessary to achieve restoration of Azerbaijani Armenians’ rights and claim compensation for their losses, the responsibility for which lies with Azerbaijan. We should demand restoration of legal and economic rights of Armenians. My nomination is also a form of struggle,” he stated.
Aivazian said he considers the Aliyev regime his only adversary. “I am sure that Alieyev also considers us his chief rival,” he stated, underlining the need to fight till final victory.
In his words, mere participation can also be considered a victory because in this way they will raise the issue of Azerbaijani Armenians’ rights.
Grigory Aivazian said the main goals of his struggle for the Azerbaijani presidency are the return of Azerbaijani Armenians, the restoration of Armenian-Muslim federal statehood of Azerbaijan, and the protection of all indigenous people.
Aivazian spoke on the statement of Azerbaijani Central Election Commission’s spokesman who said that in case of submitting all the necessary documents, the chairman of Assembly of Azerbaijani Armenians can be registered as a presidential candidate.
“The question is whether Baku will keep its word. If I am refused registration, then Azerbaijan will have no moral right to claim that elections in Nagorno Karabakh are illegitimate,” Aivazian noted.
