Law exempting draft evaders from criminal liability extended in Armenia
At the session today, the Armenian government approved a bill on amendments to the law on citizens who have not done compulsory military service in violation of established order. By the bill, it is proposed to exempt thousands of Armenian citizens who evaded military service from criminal responsibility and to ensure their return to homeland.
By the amendments, it is planned to terminate criminal proceedings against citizens who turned 27 by December 31, 2014, but who have not served in the army and are currently abroad.
The extension of the abovementioned law is expected to allow citizens above the age of 27 who did not do compulsory military service to pay a fine, return to the homeland, and be exempted from criminal liability.
