Navasardyan: Authorities try to form new opposition
The issue of who will become the main opposition force is a priority in the current internal political life of Armenia, the head of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan said during a press conference today.
According to him, the public will soon see a modified Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) with a new formal leader, and henceforth the party will be preparing for elections in a calmer, more patient way.
Commenting on BHK’s current leader Gagik Tsarukyan’s political career, B. Navasardyan noted that it has been frozen, if not ended, although there is a chance that Tsarukyan will return to politics, and he may use that change ahead of the 2017 election.
As regards Armenian National Congress (HAK), Navasardyan expressed an opinion that HAK may aspire to become the main opposition force if it has a successor to the first Armenian president. According to Navasardyan, HAK is Levon Ter-Petrosyan who has no successor capable of turning that political force into an independent player.
Speaking about the latest internal political developments, Boris Navasardyan said that the public is unaware of the ongoing processes. There was an impression after President Serzh Sargsyan’s speech that an open process was taking place, while currently it has entered a backstage phase.
Despite the fact that the authorities are trying to form new opposition, in any case the moderate opposition won’t be able to win public confidence amid the existing problems in Armenia, B. Navasardyan said.
