G. Sahakyan: Only professionals should engage in political activity
Only professionals who have gone a long way and experienced ups and downs should engage in political activity, Speaker of Armenia’s National Assembly Galust Sahakyan said during a conversation with reporters today.
“Gagik Tsarukyan should engage either in business or politics, he should choose either of two. It is up to him to decide. Business and politics should be separated,” Sahakyan said, noting that Armenia needs business more than political activity.
When asked if there are people with potential of a political figure among the members of the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK), G. Sahaskyan replied that the question should be addressed to people. “It is people who decide, not we. For instance, I was called a political figure in 2000, but I began to consider myself as such only in 2005-2006,” Sahakyan said.
He assured those present that regardless of who becomes leader of Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK), he is prepared to cooperate with anyone who assumes the party’s leadership. “If Tsarukyan chooses to remain, I will cooperate with him. Everyone plays their role in the political arena,” he noted.
Asked who – Tsarukyan or Arakel Movsisyan – is a more serious political figure, Sahakyan said:
“The only difference is that Arakel Movsisyan participated in the Karabakh war, while Gagik Tsarukyan made a significant contribution to the economic development of the country. On the whole, both should be assessed positively”.
