Azerbaijan’s membership to CSTO never discussed before – Eduard Sharmazanov
Vice Chairman of Armenia’s National Assembly Eduard Sharmazanov is concerned over Azerbaijan’s possible membership to the CSTO.
“Such talks were never held in the CSTO during the ruling of Levon Ter-Petrosyan, Robert Kocharyan and Serzh Sargsyan. We are very concerned with warming relations with Azerbaijan,” Sharmazanov told Aysor.am, urging the authorities to avoid steps that will endanger the CSTO’s authority and Armenian-Russian relations.
The vice chairman did not exclude that such talks are connected with the recent criminal cases and particularly the charges against CSTO Secretary Yuri Khachaturov.
“I hope, hence, our authorities will be more serious and will avoid making wrong steps putting Armenia’s role in the CSTO under doubt,” he stressed.
Speaking about endangered Armenian-Russian relations, Sharmazanov said that he would not like to darken the colors and call them endangered but reminded the statement of the National Security Council secretary who acknowledged the distrust in the relations between the two countries.
Sharmazanov stressed that this distrust appeared as a result of the statements and activities of the current authorities. “We have allied relations with Russia, we have serious post in the CSTO because we understand that this is Armenia’s, Artsakh’s main tactics for the coming decades, and Armenia has to be a member of this or that military-political block,” he stressed.
