Catholicos of All Armenians receives UCLA Chancellor
His Holiness Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II received today Chancellor of University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) biologist, academician Gene Block accompanied by Co-Chief of David Geffen School of Medicine at the UCLA Erik Esrailian.
The Catholicos highly rated the UCLA’s contribution to the works on reinforcement of American University of Armenia and stressed that the creation of new educational opportunities for young people may seriously reduce emigration rate.
Karekin II stressed that close friendship with the U.S. Armenian community promotes the development of the established partnership. In this regard the Catholicos expressed gratitude to Doctor Erik Esrailian for his active participation in the national-spiritual life of the Armenian community.
In his turn, Gene Block said that it is his first visit to Armenia and stressed that there is a respectable Armenian community in UCLA.
During the meeting the interlocutors also referred to the exclusive role of the Holy See in preservation of cultural and national identity of the Armenian people, challenges the country and the church are facing.
