Students allowed to pay tuition fee per month: new amendment hailed by majority
Chairman of the Board of the Kh. Abovian Pedagogical University Davit Gyurjinyan hailed the changes made in the law about Education which allows the students to pay tuition fee per month.
“The social condition in Armenia makes it difficult for students to pay the tuition fee fully at once or in two parts. Of course, in the end the tuition fee is to be fully paid but in this way it will not become a big burden,” he said, speaking to Aysor.am.
He said the new amendment is hailed both from humanitarian viewpoint and regarding loosening the social tension.
“It is good that no one will be left out of the university due to not being able to pay the tuition fee,” he said.
Asked whether the initiative was late, Gyurjinyan stressed, “It is better late than never.”
“It is very important for young people. We do not know during these years how many of them left the university and chose another path of life. The amendment is a very good one. Of course, if it was adopted earlier it would have been better but the moods of the previous authorities and the working philosophy differs from the current one. Now, the authorities face the people as they are brought to power by the people,” Gyurjinyan said.
Earlier today, the National Assembly adopted the bill proposed by Prosperous Armenia faction MP Tigran Urikhanyan which allows students to pay tuition fee per month. The bill was backed by 112 lawmakers, 2 voted against.
