Chairman of the Union of Armenian Architects hails demounting of cafes in Opera territory
Chairman of the Union of Armenian Architects Mkrtich Minasyan hailed the decision of the Yerevan Municipality to clean the Opera territory of cafes. He stressed that this territory should have been cleaned from cafes long ago, Minasyan said, speaking to Aysor.am.
“This part of the capital should have been freed from occupation and made a green zone,” he said, adding that Oval park territory should also be cleaned.
“The municipality has made a right decision. It is another step to raise the value of Opera and Ballet National Academic Theatre. This territory must correspond to its essence. In a while, the residents of Yerevan will see what a good thing it will be,” the architect said, stressing that the final result will be demounting of all the cafes and not only part of them.
Mkrtich Minasyan draw the attention on the circumstance that renting or privatizing the territory for years the owners of cafes did not use it for purpose, as a result it turned into a garbage place.
“I am particularly speaking about the Oval park. Go and see. I do not know when they took it and left without care. Of course, the cafes there must be demounted too,” he said.
Speaking about the possibility of demounting attics built on the buildings, Minasyan said that they are very dangerous regarding the seismic protection.
“By building attics many buildings have been distorted, besides they endangered the buildings as Yerevan is located on seismic zone. In time people were allowed to do something light but instead they built something like second floor, with thick walls. But who has allowed them to do it? They have endangered the buildings. Of course, attics endangering lives should be demounted,” he said, at the same time stressing that before demounting attics they should be examined.
