Architect urges to demount not only cafes but attics built on buildings
Architect Sashur Kalashyan hails the initiative of the Municipality to free Opera building territory of cafes, describing it even a bit late step.
“The process of placing cafes in public territories started still in 90s when the government was newly forming. The economic issues became prior ones and the cultural were not. As a result, we had what we had with all the public territories being rented or sold,” the architect said, speaking to Aysor.am.
He said the existence of cafes in public territories of the capital should have been banned from the very beginning, and the Municipality has made a right decision to demount them.
The architect believes that all entertainment centers – cafes, restaurants – must be located in basement floors of the buildings.
As to demounting of attics on the buildings in Yerevan, Kalashyan said that this is the second shame of the capital.
“If I was a mayor and had the authority I would have instructed to demount all the attics. There is not even one to please the eye. The attics have distorted the character of our capital we used to be proud of. Now tourists come, see and say what a barbaric nation we are. This is the result of it. Besides, the attics endanger the security of the buildings and people. Attic is another architecture, it does not fit into Armenian architecture and lifestyle,” the architect said.
He also hailed the intention of the municipality to free the Oval park of cafes.
