Government fails to initiate amendments in Labor Code, criticizes bills of others: PAP lawmaker
The Armenian National Assembly rejected today at its session the bills submitted by Prosperous Armenia faction on making changes in the law on Labor Code. Earlier the NA’s health, social affairs standing committee has given a negative conclusion.
With one of the bills PAP lawmaker Gevorg Petrosyan was proposing for lawmakers to continue their scientific-pedagogical activity on the basis of contract which does not fix the period of time and not sign a term contract like it is now.
“There was a case in previous parliament when the elected lawmaker who was giving lectures became term employee and after he was not elected this time he lost the opportunity to continue his pedagogical activity,” Petrosyan said.
With another provision Petrosyan was suggesting to protect the interests of employers like in cases of groundless absences of employees or cases when they come to work but do not implement their duties.
“We mean that an employer may fire an employee in case the latter intentionally does not carry out his/her duties which is rather dangerous condition for the employer,” Petrosyan said, adding that the Prime Minister is speaking about empowering the economy but it is not possible without protecting employers’ interests.
The government was also against these bills, grounding it with new big amendments in the Labor Code to be submitted to the parliament.
“The government has not come up with any changes in the Electoral Code for already 11 months. Now the government not only fails to initiate any changes but criticizes ours. An impression is as if the National Assembly follows the steps of the government and rejects all the bills rejected by it. I urge everyone to treat legislative process seriously,” the lawmaker said.
