100-200 lecturers of State University of Economics may lose their jobs: lecturers alarm about situation in university
The lecturers of Armenia’s state university of economics are alarming about the situation in their university.
Speaking to reporters today, assistant of management chair Armen Karakhanyan said that everything started with December 2018 when Ruben Hayrapetyan was appointed acting rector of the university but the things got worse after the elections of the staff of university’s scientific-pedagogical staff and regulation was worked out and adopted on April 30, 2019.
Karakhanyan stressed that it contradicts a number of laws.
“We really hope that the corresponding state bodies are not aware of the situation that it is why the illegalities continue. We are convinced that in new Armenia the illegalities have no place,” he said.
“Those who worked out the regulation are not aware of Armenia’s legislation and educational processes at all. We have applied to court and our lawsuit has been put into proceeding,” Karakhanyan said, adding that first the court put a ban on the application of the mentioned order but 2-3 days later he lifted the ban.
He said a contest of lecturers was declared on the basis of the new regulation with 60 of them having boycotted it, others refusing to answer the questions and those who did are not sure that they will continue working in the university from September 1.
“A contest commission has been formed consisting of only one specialist, the head of the chair, the other four are not specialists at all,” he said.
“From September 1 the lecturers may go to work and it may appear that they are not working there anymore. With approximate calculations over 100-300 lecturers of existing 380 may lose their jobs,” Karakhanyan stated, adding that till now the results of the contest are not published.
