Roads to Amulsar will be kept closed, mine exploitation will not be allowed: environmentalist
Jermuk residents claim that roads taking to Amulsar will remain closed until final solution of the issue, Shirak Buniatyan, resident of Jermuk and environmentalist, said speaking to Aysor.am.
“We respect and accept the prime minister, share the revolution’s ideology, but we cannot do what he wants,” Buniatyan said.
“As residents of Jermuk who have seen what is taking place in Jermuk resort zone during construction works in Amulsar we will not allow exploitation of the mine in any case,” Buniatyan said, referring to Pashinyan’s statement in the USA that Armenian side has no legal grounds not to allow Amulsar mine exploitation.
“Let us not forget that in the same statement the prime minister also mentioned the possibility of closing the mine in case of weighty legal reason. We are convinced that by going till the end in finding the truth, the prime minister will come to conclusion that Amulsar mine exploitation should not be allowed,” the environmentalist said.
Asked in what case they are ready to open the roads, Buniatyan said the whole community is against the exploitation of the mine, they believe that mine industry has no place in Amulsar.
“People respect the prime minister, but we view Amulsar as our homeland and will not open the roads until final solution of the issue,” he said, adding that after the PM’s statement voiced about 20 days ago they have conducted open discussion and decided that the road will not be opened until final solution of the issue.
As to media publications that the PM instructed to open the roads with the usage of force if necessary which according to some talks resulted in resignation of chief of Armenia’s police Valeriy Osipyan, the environmentalist said he does not think the return to the past is a right way.
“I do not think a return to past is a right way as I believe in the revolution. But at the same time I do not exclude anything. In short, we have considered all the options and are ready for them,” he said, adding while being engaged in this fight they took into consideration all the possible consequences.
The environmentalist said they will not respond with force to the force but will make a wall with their family members, children to close the entrance to Amulsar.
“I do not think in this case the police forces will open the road taking to the mine by breaking us and our children,” Buniatyan stressed.
