Russia’s FM’s interview to Armenian news agency contains messages addressed to Armenian authorities: expert
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov’s interview to Armenia’s Mediamax news agency contained interesting messages, with clear accents, expert from Hayatsk think tank Hermine Mkhitaryan said, speaking to Aysor.am.
“According to the official press release Lavrov’s agenda is quite full, during the meetings with the president, PM and foreign minister the parties will refer to almost all the sectors of bilateral cooperation. Of course, Artsakh issue is also on the agenda,” the expert said, adding that Artsakh part of Lavrov’s interview to Mediamax is worth special attention.
The expert stressed that the formulations relating to final status of Artsakh raise worries.
“Lavrov sees the final clarification of the status as a result of negotiations on the basis of legally binding expression of will. It is not a new approach and is more known in the experts’ circle as “Lavrov’s plan”, indeed, this is just one part of the mentioned “plan” relating to the final status,” Mkhitaryan said.
She stressed that during the Yerevan visit Lavrov will again push forward the Russian plan of the Karabakh conflict settlement and his “love confession” to the Armenian authorities in the interview are clear explanation of it.
“During the passing one and a half year the issues existing in Armenian-Russian relations were demonstrated not once. We may speak very long about them. During this period we did not have any high-level bilateral meeting which has not reflected the existence of issues. Sergey Lavrov’s recent interview on this background is both unnatural and raised worries. More than ever it gives ground to suppose that the Russian side has some expectations from the Armenian revolutionary authorities against such positive attitude,” the expert said, adding that the interview contained interesting messages addressed to the Armenian authorities.
