Marmot Day to be celebrated today
Today the US and Canada celebrate the Marmot Day.
Marmot Day is an Alaskan holiday established to celebrate marmots and Alaska's unique culture. Marmot Day is celebrated on February 2, replacing Groundhog Day with a holiday honoring Alaska's marmots.
If the day is dark and the Marmot doesn’t see its shadow it leaves its hole and it means that the winter will end soon and the spring will soon come. But if the day is sunny and the Marmot can see its shadow than it hides itself in its hole; this means there are still 6 weeks left for the spring.
In some cities in the US and Canada festival is being held on that day dedicated to the Marmots. Many tourists gather to watch the festivals.
In Ancient Rome as well they used to rely on animals in prediction of weather forecast. Here they used to use hedgehogs for prediction.
According to the behavior of the hedgehog it was clear what weather was to be expected.
