V. Babayan: Authorities’ benefit is in motivation to retain power
Armenia is faced with a difficult choice. Society has to adapt to the reproduction of power in own country and stay on the sidelines, deputy of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) faction Vahan Babayan said at the Heritage Party-organized discussions of constitutional reforms.
“This is no time to do it. The constitutional reforms will result neither in economic development nor in a decline in the emigration rate. It is wrong to deceive people and tell them that all misfortunes in Armenia have to do with the Constitution. First of all, thousands of people leaving Armenia should be asked if they will remain in the country in case of such changes,” the parliamentary deputy said.
In his words, although the authorities speak about constitutional reforms today, these reforms do not stem from the state’s interests.
‘The benefit of the authorities that plunged the country into crisis may be only in motivation to retain power,” Babayan noted. According to him, there are no guarantees that after the changes to the Constitution, the same people will not remain in power.
“The order of the summands – in this case, people and positions – will not affect the sum. The country will continue to experience a crisis. It is a great farce for the gross audience. If the authorities attempt to carry out forcibly constitutional reforms, tension will grow, but if they follow a path of consensus, I see a great resource here,” he said in conclusion.
