Martun Grigoryan: Situation is calm in Gyumri, people wait
Although the situation related to the tragic Gyumri events has not yet clarified, one cannot say that there is serious anti-Russian sentiment in the city, the deputy of Prosperous Armenia (BHK) parliamentary faction Martun Grigoryan told Aysor.am.
In his words, on the whole, the situation is calm and people are waiting.
When asked if tension could increase again in Gyumri, given that the Armenian side yesterday brought a charge against Valery Permyakov and he pleaded guilty, but the Russian side is in no haste to bring a charge 10 days after the tragedy, M. Grigoryan found it difficult to answer that question.
“I can’t say why the Russian side is in no haste, but in any case, the only correct decision in this situation is to wait. It would be wrong to make haste. Each side is taking actions, let’s wait a little,” he noted.
As was reported, one of Gyumri residents’ demands was that Permyakov should remain in Armenia and not be moved to Moscow. During the protests in Gymri on January 15, MP Martun Grigoryan himself saw the criminal kept at the Russian 102nd military base.
Grigoryan said he does not know if Permyakov is still at the military base in Gyumri, but he will go there to get evidence, if the public again demands it. He added that he too considers it important that Permyakov should be kept in Armenia.
Armenia’s Investigative Committee (IC) yesterday brought a charge against V. Permyakov under Article 104 part 2 point 1 (murder of two or more people) of the Criminal Code. The investigative group set up by IC examined the crime scene, questioned over 30 witnesses. Investigatory, operational search and other actions were taken. A criminal case was opened under Article 104 part 2 point 1 of Armenian Criminal Code.
