Jacques Chirac to stand trial

Former French President Jacques Chirac must stand trial on corruption charges, French media outlets reported Friday.

Jacques Chirac has been ordered to stand trial in corruption scandal dating back to his tenure as Paris mayor. Those final months as mayor of Paris, Chirac is alleged to have employed staff on the city payroll who was instead working on his presidential campaign.

Chirac was mayor of Paris from 1977 to 1995 and president of France from 1995 until May 16, 2007.
