French-Armenians claim to criminalize denial of Armenian Genocide

Nearly 600 people of Armenian descent gathered Tuesday in front of the French Senate, where MPs and senators set to vote on the bill passed by the French National Assembly in 2006, criminalizing the denial of the Armenian Genocide, a freelance journalist Jean Echkian reported.

Ara Toranian, new co-chairman of the CCAF, and Mourad Papazian called on the Armenian community not to slacken the mobilization so that French Republic to take its responsibilities towards the danger posed by the Turkish denial, Jean Echkian said.

It’s worth mentioning that there were cases of denial of the 1915 Genocide by the teenagers of Turkish descent in some college of France.

Ara Toranian and Mourad Papazian said they hope the bill will be adopted by 2011. If so, the denial of the 1915 Genocide will be penalized in law with a penalty of one year of imprisonment and a fine of 45.000 euros.
