Mixed marriages 15-20% in Lebanese-Armenian community
Lebanese Armenian public figure Sargis Kirakosyan spoke about educational, cultural, public problems of Lebanon’s Armenian community today, at a meeting with reporters.
According to the speaker, 25 Armenian colleges function in Lebanon at present, with 12-13 thousand students, and nearly 7 thousand students attend foreign-language colleges. There are nearly 8 cultural unions in the country.
“Armenian colleges in Lebanon aim at educating students by Armenian spirit, educating conscientious Armenians committed to the future,” Sargis Kirakosyan stressed adding that no migration of Armenians from Lebanon is observed over the past years, but there are families having settled in Armenia and having their own business here.
Speaking about mixed marriages Mr. Kirakosyan did not hail them, meanwhile positively assessed them mentioning that Armenian young people study at Lebanon’s universities, with most of students being foreigners.
Mixed marriages make 15-20 percent, what, according to the Lebanese-Armenian community representative, is a small number.
