National preventive mechanisms against torture operate in Armenia

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan attended “International Seminar on Mechanisms for the Prevention of Torture.”

T. Sargsyan greeting the participants of seminar, who have arrived in Yerevan from over 30 countries, stated that in 2006 Armenia joined the United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment. After ratification of the convention in the parliament Ombudsman’s institution recognized an independent national mechanism against torture.

The Prime Ministers wished participants of seminar fruitful work expressing hope that exchange of experience will help Armenia raise operation efficiency of the national preventive mechanisms against torture.
