Government, opposition hope for continuation of dialogue
The cause for suspending the negotiations between the government and opposition is artificial, according to MP and member of the Republican Party of Armenia Rafik Petrosyan.
“This issue has nothing to do with the country’s political problems and cannot make the sides suspend the dialogue. If a HAK activist has taken a criminal action, he should be called to account in accordance with the law,” according to Petrosyan.
In his words, release of HAK activist Tigran Arakelyan might become a dangerous precedent.
Member of the Board of the Armenian National Movement Hovhannes Igityan noted that the current government includes some persons who are scared of losing their jobs when the dialogue gets under way.
“If the dialogue continues, the current government, police, 70 percent of the parliament staff will be changed,” he said.
According to him, the government needs a dialogue rather than the opposition.
At the same time, both speakers expressed hope for continuation of the dialogue, for there is no alternative.
