HAK going to boycott election?

A meeting of the Armenian National Congress (HAK) political council took place at the HAK Office yesterday. The participants discussed the format of HAK participation in the upcoming presidential election. The political council took a decision which Levon Zurabian said will be announced today after some consultations.

“Hraparak” daily, however, found out that as a result of the discussions, HAK has chosen the option of a boycott. Unless there are changes until tomorrow, it is not ruled out that HAK will announce its decision to boycott the election and not to back any presidential candidate.

The paper tried to learn from Chairman of Democratic Homeland Party Petros Makeyan whether they will also quit HAK and back the candidacy of Hrant Bagratian if HAK chooses the boycott option. Makeyan said that they will discuss the issue of backing (not backing) Bagratian or some other candidate at the meeting of their party’s political council in mid January. He said that he cannot say anything definite at the moment.
