European Commission President congratulates S. Sargsyan on reelection

President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso has sent a congratulatory message on the reelection of Serzh Sargsyan as Armenian President. According to the presidential press service, the message in particular says:

“The European Commission looks forward to continuing the development and strengthening of its ties with your country within the framework of negotiations on the EU-Armenia Association Agreement, including the negotiations on a deep and comprehensive free trade zone”.

J. Barroso welcomed the reforms which began during the first term of Serzh Sargsyan and were aimed at strengthening fundamental freedoms and making economic and structural changes.

He also welcomed the improved conduct of elections and progress in bringing democratic processes into line with interactional standards.

“I call upon you to address in a transparent and comprehensive manner the issues indicated particularly in the report of the OSCE/ODIHR Observation Mission.

I assure you of my personal interest in all these undertakings and of my commitment to further deepening of our relations”, the message reads.
