Serzh Sargsyan makes speech at EPP summit in Brussels

While on his working visit to Belgium on March 14, Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan attended the summit of the European People’s Party (EPP), at which the political situation in Europe, financial and economic problems of the European Union, and cooperation prospects within the framework of the Eastern Partnership Program were discussed.

S. Sargsyan made a speech at the summit, in which he discussed the February 18 presidential election and the post-election developments in Armenia, the implementation of reforms in the country, as well as cooperation and further activities under the Eastern Partnership Program.

The Armenian president reaffirmed readiness to continue the political line of comprehensive reforms and European integration - as a priority of Armenia’s foreign policy. Speaking about abuses of European values and partnership objectives, Serzh Sargsyan pointed out the inadmissibility of selective use of these values by Azerbaijan.

Following the summit Serzh Sargsyan met EPP President Wilfried Martens.

Serzh Sargsyan thanked W. Martens and the EPP for their support during the presidential elections in Armenia and for the warm congratulatory message that Mr. Martens sent after the elections, appreciating Armenia’s progress.

The sides attached importance to the further deepening of inter-party cooperation, in particular inter-parliamentary ties.
Regional problems were also discussed at the meeting.

The working visit of Serzh Sargsyan to Belgium has ended, the presidential press service reported.
