Sargsyan: Next generations will find coexistence formula

“We are convinced that the next generations of the Armenians and the Turks will find a new formula for coexistence, and in order to achieve this goal, we need to cooperate to eliminate the consequences of the crimes committed in the past – as an important guarantee of restoration of justice,” says the message that Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has sent to the participants of the scientific conference “The Armenian Genocide: Challenges on the Eve of the 100th Anniversary”.

The president notes that the most conscious part of Turkish society found the strength to reconsider the imposed approaches and positions on the tragedy that happened in the past; moreover, they were even able to take a critical approach to the official position and to protest against new manifestations of negativism.

“The Armenian people who survived the Genocide have managed – despite the wishes of criminals who wanted to wipe the Armenians off the face of the earth – to recover their feet, build statehood, and set up strong and reliable national structures in the Diaspora. The centenary of the Genocide is not just a date. Holding events will allow us to demonstrate to the world our unity and our determination not to retreat when the matter concerns the elimination of the Genocide’s consequences and also to pass the new methods of struggle and survival to the next generations,” the message reads.
