Temporary houses flooded in Gyumri after rains

Following the 1988 devastating earthquake, thousands of temporary wagon shelters were received from former Soviet Union republic and placed mostly in green areas of the city of Gymri. Many of these green areas are now damp marshlands, with wagon shelters being located near rainwater pipes and Gyumri rivulet. For this reason, hundreds of wagon shelters are flooded after pouring rains in the spring and fall. Shirak Center has raised the problem.

In the past 25 years, these homes where people were expected to live for only 2-3 years have become dilapidated, with unbearable living conditions.

Employees of Shirak Center visited lonely pensioner Sofia Msrian, a retired teacher. Her wagon is one of the houses which are regularly flooded after rains. They filmed a video.
