Armenian president visits British embassy

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan visited today the British embassy in Yerevan on the occasion of the Queen’s Official Birthday, a public holiday marked in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland, the presidential press service reported.

Serzh Sargsyan congratulated British Ambassador Jonathan Aves and the embassy staff, wising them success and efficient activities. The president reaffirmed Armenia’s readiness to develop relations with the UK in the political, economic and cultural spheres. He stated with satisfaction that the political dialog between the two countries has become active, especially in recent years. Speaking about recent high-level visits, Serzh Sargsyan indicated the visit of Permanent Under-Secretary in the UK Office Foreign and Commonwealth Office Simon Fraser and the visit that HRH Prince Charles paid to Armenia a few days ago. In Serzh Sargsyan’s words, the Armenian people consider Prince Charles’s sponsorship of Yerevan My Love project not only as an act of charity, but also as the Royal Family’s attitude toward Armenia, which is highly appreciated by the Armenians.

Ambassador Aves said he shares the Armenian president’s opinion regarding the development of bilateral links. He attached importance to the promotion of economic cooperation in parallel with political relations.

The interlocutors stressed that the political relationship can be strengthened based on successful economic cooperation.
In this context, President Sargsyan and Ambassador Aves discussed issues related to the development of bilateral Armenian-British relations and the expansion of bilateral partnership.
