BHK demands return to former public transport fares
On the initiative of Yerevan Mayor Taron Margarian, a meeting with Prosperous Armenia Party (BHK) faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders was held today, according to a statement issued by BHK faction of the Yerevan Council of Elders.
“As a matter of fact, a substantive talk as such did not take place. The mayor presented his position and reasons for increasing the public transport fares, which continues to be unacceptable to us.
We consider the proposal to set up a working group for finding the problem’s solutions as inefficient at the moment because it will artificially delay the solution. A working group for improvement of transport sector should be set up only after the return to former fares.
BHK faction continues to believe that under such tense social conditions, the problem should be solved as soon as possible. It is necessary to use the previous fare as the first step and then to work out social packages for students and various social groups.
We deem it necessary to remind you that during his election campaign ahead of elections to Yerevan Council of Elders, Taron Margarian officially declared that there would be no increase in transport fares. We believe that any official keep his promises,” the BHK statement reads.
In the statement, BHK faction also stresses the necessity to convene a special sitting of Council of Elders for finding proper solutions.
