Diocesan Cathedral consecrated in Moscow

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his spouse Rita Sargsyan attended the consecration service of the newly-built Diocesan Cathedral in Moscow and the opening ceremony of the Cultural Cathedral Complex there.

Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II presided over the Consecration. Patriarch of Moscow and all Rus’ Kirill was also present at the consecration service.

Following the service, Serzh Sargsyan together with the event’s organizers, benefactors and guests visited the exhibition “Armenians in Moscow: Historic Path”.

The Armenian president also familiarized himself with the educational building and the guest house of the Cathedral Complex. He then attended the unveiling of “Love and Friendship’” Monument symbolizing the friendship of the Armenian and Russian peoples.

The Cathedral Complex consists of the Cathedral (which is the biggest building of the Armenian Apostolic Church outside Armenia) for a thousand worshippers, the residence of the Primate of the Russian Diocese of the Armenian Apostolic Church, the Surb Khach chapel, an educational complex, a guest house, a refectory, a fountain, and an underground parking area for several hundred cars. There is also a treasury museum where sacred objects will be kept.
