Yerevan reacts to Romanian foreign minister’s statement

Spokesman for Armenian Foreign Ministry Tigran Balayan responded to the question of Armenpress news agency concerning the statement allegedly made by Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlatean.

Question: The Azerbaijani mass media reported that in response to a question of an Azerbaijani lobby organization, the Romanian foreign minister made an unexpected statement that distorts the core of the Karabakh problem and its settlement process. What can you say about it?

Answer: It is hard to believe that a high-ranking official of a member state of the OSCE or the EU could permit himself to make such a statement contradicting the approaches of both the OSCE and the EU as well as all the five statements concerning the Karabakh problem resolution which have been made in the past five years by the heads of the Co-Chair States – Russia, the United States and France. We don’t believe that in order to please an Azerbaijani lobby organization, an official of a state could make such an irresponsible statement which could only damage the negotiating process.
