HAK activist Tigran Arakelian to go at large

The imprisoned activist of Armenian National Congress (HAK) Tigran Arakelian will be released under an amnesty.

Justice Minister Hrayr Tovmasian told reporters that the Armenian president’s proposal to declare an amnesty was approved today at the closed sitting of the parliament’s Standing Committee on State and Legal Affairs.

“Under the amnesty, some convicts will be immediately released, and prison terms of some others will be reduced. The amnesty does not apply to those sentenced under certain articles of the code,” the minister said.

Hrayr Tovmasian reminded reporters  that the 2011 amnesty applied to 1,200 convicts.
