Baghdasarian: Armenia is not a drug producing country

A sitting was held today to summarize the results of the Channel-Caucasus local anti-drug operation conducted in Armenia, the press service of Armenia’s National Security Council (NSC) reported.

NSC Secretary Arthur Baghdasarian said in his speech that the purpose of Channel-Caucasus operations conducted annually within the framework of the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) is to combat drug trafficking by joint efforts.

According to A. Baghdasarian, the Armenian police have done large-scale work, with results being summed up at the September 18 sitting of the interdepartmental commission headed by NSC secretary. The commission deals with issues related to the fight against illegal drug-trafficking. Its activities considerably increased the efficiency of work of the respective state bodies.

“Although there are still numerous problems in need of solution, we can say that presently Armenia is not a drug producing or drug transit country, while drug use figures are quite low in our country,” NSC secretary said.

Speeches were also made by Armenian Police Chief Vladimir Gasparian, CSTO Secretary General Nikolai Bordyuzha, and Director of Russia’s Federal Drug Control Service Victor Ivanov.
