Serzh Sargsyan meets with presidents of academies of sciences

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today presidents of the academies of sciences from over 10 countries who arrived in Yerevan to attend the events dedicated to the 70th anniversary of Armenia’s National Academy of Sciences (NAS).
According to the presidential press service, Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the famous scientists and thanked them for participation in the festive events to mark the 70th anniversary of NAS. The president highly appreciated the work of NAS that has followed a glorious path. He stressed that Armenian scientists have for decades made serious contributions to the development of science and socioeconomic life of Armenia.

The Armenian president expressed hope that scientists of Armenia’s NAS will continue their work, while young scholars, without whom the development of science has no prospects, will join the ranks of the academy. The president also attributed the recent achievements of NAS to active cooperation with the international community, without which it is hard to imagine scientific development in line with modern standards.

Serzh Sargsyan stressed the importance of cooperation in the bilateral format as well as under international programs and within the framework of various organizations. In his words, the best example is ALLEA – the Federation of All-European Academies that currently brings together 55 academies in 43 countries, including Armenia’s NAS.

At the meeting President of NAS Radik Martirosian expressed his gratitude to the Armenian president for the state’s constant attention to the academy and for support given to scientists, especially young ones.

The presidents of the academies of a number of countries had a talk with the Armenian president, discussing the ways of overcoming the current challenges to science and the prospects of scientific development. They stressed the importance of active cooperation among academies. In conclusion, Serzh Sargsyan asked the famous scientists to honor with their presence the ceremony of giving Armenian President’s Annual Awards in the IT Sphere.
