Armenian president receives Thorbjorn Jagland

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland who arrived in Yerevan to take part in a forum on the struggle against racism, xenophobia and intolerance in Europe. The forum is being held on October 21-22 as part of Armenia’s chairmanship of the CE Committee of Ministers.

S. Sargsyan reaffirmed the country’s determination to continue and deepen reforms on modernization of our society and state based on the principles of human rights, democracy and the rule of the law, the presidential press service said.

He expressed hope that the Council of Europe, in particular the Venice Commission, will assist with constitutional reforms in Armenia.

The interlocutors also discussed issues related to development of Armenia-EU relations, the implementation of court and legal reforms in the country, and regional problems.
