Convict suffering from many diseases not taken to hospital

Convict Arthur Martirosian (name changed) who is serving a term in an Armenian penal institution suffers from numerous diseases such as chronic hepatitis, hypertension, osteochondrosis, and radiculitis.

As early as May the penal institution asked the Criminal Executive Department of Justice Ministry to transport A. Martirosian to Convicts’ Hospital, but instead it received instructions to organize the convict’s examination and treatment in the same penal institution.

Martirosian’s mother applied to the Office of Human Rights Defender (HRD). According to the HRD Office, employees of Justice Ministry’s Supervisory Inspection along with medical experts of the penal institution examined A. Martirosian. Given the fact that his treatment in the penal institution was unsuccessful, a decision was made to transport Martirosian to Convicts’ Hospital where he is being treated now.
