Parliament factions make statement concerning pension system

Four factions of the Armenian parliament consider the breakdown by the parliamentary majority of the special session on postponement of the compulsory accumulative pension system’s introduction as a disrespectful attitude to the Constitution.

In their joint statement, representatives of ARFD, Prosperous Armenia, Heritage and Armenian National Congress factions and independent deputy Khachatur Kokobelian say that the introduction of the compulsory accumulative pension system will have negative consequences.

The statement authors condemn the behavior of the parliamentary majority – Republican Party of Armenia and Orinats Yerkir Party and consider the system’s introduction on January 1, 2014 as inadmissible. They also demand the decision’s cancelation, organization of expert discussions, and creation of mechanisms for possible risks’ neutralization.

‘We will continue struggling against that system by all constitutional means, also by using the right to hold a special session of the parliament, organize events, and exert public pressure on the government. We call on all Armenian citizens to take an active part in this struggle aimed at ensuring dignified old age,” the statement reads.

Let us remind you that the Armenian parliament’s special session on the postponement of the compulsory accumulative pension system’s introduction until 2015 did not take place today due to the refusal of the faction of the ruling Republican Party of Armenia to attend the session.
