Hovhannisian: Russian base will receive areas for temporary use

“The Russian military base located in the territory of Armenia is stationed in various areas called military towns. Since the agreement on the Russian base entered into force, the list of the locations of the military base has been repeatedly changed – for Armenia’s security reasons,” the Defense Minister’s spokesman Artsrun Hovhannisian said in a statement.

“With the aim of modernizing and re-equipment of the Russian air base located in Erebuni Airport, it is planned to give some areas not used by the Armenian armed forces (such as parking lots for a helicopter squadron, areas of administrative buildings and fuel and lubricant storehouses) to the Russian side for temporary use,” the statement reads.

According to A. Hovhannisian, in the airport there are also facilities jointly used by the Armenian and Russian sides, including the runway.
