Armenian president: Life after Vilinius will continue

During the consultation in Armenian Finance Ministry, President Serzh Sargsyan answered questions of members of the ministry staff. The questions were related to the ministry’s problems as well as to Armenia’s foreign and domestic policies, the presidential press service said.

In response to the question about the outcome of the Vilnius summit that ended the day before for our country, the president said: “It is a normal outcome. To tell the truth, unlike many others, I did not think that Vilnius was a terminal point to be reached in order to show the results. It is no accident that in Vilnius there was a joke: life after Vilnius will continue. Of course, life is continuing. I think Vilinius was a point on the path for us, the European Union, and the Eastern Partnership. And the joint statement adopted by the EU and the Republic of Armenia was an assessment of the path followed before that point and our vision of the future. Of course, it is also a document on the program that will implement on the path of continuing with our reforms.

Almost everyone shows understanding of the decisions we have taken, without exception. At both private meetings and discussions we always have the opportunity to present our position and this position is accepted from the viewpoint of people conscious of the moment. The matter concerns not us, but those who express opinions about our decisions.

I assess it as normal. I think you know about the statement we issued, and almost everyone knows: it was an interim decision and we will continue with reforms in our country. The main objective and pivot of the Eastern Partnership are reforms in a concrete country. And what was said in this hall today is yet another proof that reforms are implemented in our country – more rapidly and effectively in some spheres and a little more slowly and not so effectively in other spheres, but I think in general the process is moving ahead normally. We must give impetus to this process, which was said in the statement yesterday”.
