An agreement between Armenia and Japan on visa-free travel of diplomatic passport holders will take effect soon. Regular political consultations between the foreign ministries of Armenia and Japan took place in Tokyo on January 15. The importance of the agreement as a factor contributing to the political dialog was indicated during the consultations, according to Armenian Foreign Ministry.

The sides discussed a number of issues related to the agenda of bilateral relations, in particular promotion of the political dialog, creation of prerequisites for the development of trade and economic links, cooperation in international organizations, expansion of the legal and contractual field, and deepening of cultural and educational cooperation.

The sides underlined the importance of the Japanese government’s decision of December 24, 2013 to open an embassy in Armenia.

Deputy Foreign Minister of Armenia Sergei Manasarian conducted consultations on behalf of the Armenian side. Japan’s Special Representative to GUAM and Caucasus Norio Ambassador Norio Maruyama represented the Japanese side.
