Karabakh serviceman posthumously awarded Medal for Courage

President of the Nagorno Karabakh Republic Bako Sahakian today signed a decree on awarding posthumously the Medal for Courage to Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisian, a serviceman of a military unit of the NKR Defense Army, for courage displayed while defending the state border of the NKR, according to the press service of the Office of NKR President.

The armed forces of Nagorno Karabakh on the night of January 20 foiled an attempt of two Azerbaijani subversive groups to infiltrate into the territory of Karabakh.

“Early Monday the armed forces of the NKR noticed two simultaneous attempts by Azerbaijani subversive groups to infiltrate in the northeastern (Jraberd) and southeastern (Korgan) directions of the line of contact of the Karabakh and Azerbaijani armed forces.
The frontline units of the Nagorno Karabakh troops launched an organized defense. The enemy’s subversive groups were thrown back suffering human and material losses,” the press service of the NKR Defense Ministry reported.

Junior Sergeant of the NKR armed forces Armen Hovhannisian was killed in the shooting.
