Armenian defense minister: We do everything for Injighulian’s return
Armenian Defense Ministry is doing everything to bring back POW Hakob Injighulian, but the absence of direct contacts with Azerbaijan complicates that process, Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanian said at a press conference today.
When asked by reporters if tensions on the border in the past few days will affect captive soldier Hakob Injighulian, the minister said that tensions on the border and the Line of Contact are part of certain developments and political negotiations.
“It is also related to the so-called Black January in Azerbaijan. They try to make provocations in this period. The Azerbaijani side met with a fitting rebuff and suffered considerable losses on the night of January 20. They are concerned that we may take retaliatory actions. Tension reigns there, which is reflected in desultory fire,” Seyran Ohanian said.
The minister stressed again that the Armenian side does not reply to desultory fire of the enemy.
As regards the situation at the Armenian-Azerbaijani border’s section in Tavush province of Armenia, the defense minister said that there is nothing new about gunfire at that section.
“The situation is under control. We should know that shots from the Azerbaijani side will continue until a peace treaty is signed. They will receive an adequate response,” S. Ohanian said.
