A. Hovhannisian posthumously awarded Medal for Service to Fatherland

By a decree of Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan, Junior Sergeant Armen Hovhannisian who heroically died while repelling the attack of an Azerbaijani subversive group on his combat position in Nagorno Karabakh on the night of January 20, has been awarded the Medal for Service to the Fatherland 1st class.

The medal was awarded for the soldier’s exceptional bravery displayed during the Homeland’s defense, his personal courage, high degree of military training, and selflessness in the discharge of official duty in conditions dangerous to life.

President Serzh Sargsyan today handed the medal to serviceman Armen Hovhannisian’s parents at the awards ceremony on the 22nd anniversary of the formation of the Armenian Armed Forces marked on January 28. Those present observed a minute of silence in memory of the hero.
