Navasardian: Authorities didn’t act as defender of Armenians’ interests

“Russia and the U.S. will make a compromise soon, and it is unclear what will then happen to Armenia, “ the chairman of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardian told journalists today.

“Unfortunately, as a result of the Armenian authorities’ policy, it is not we who decide our fate. We will only be a small part in the global trade,” he noted.

According to Navasardian, Armenia’s reaction to the Kesab events was not sufficient.

“During these years the Armenian authorities have not acted as a defender of the Armenians’ interests. It is a result of our foreign policy. Prior to the breakup of the USSR, the Diaspora organizations acted as defenders of the Armenians’ interests, but their power has declined as the Republic of Armenia exists now,” B. Navasardian said.

On March 21 the Armenian-populated town of Kesab in Syria was attacked by armed detachments set up in Turkey. Hundreds of Armenians had to abandon their homes and flee to Latakia.
