Armenian president receives NATO PA delegation

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan received today a delegation of the Sub-committee for Partnership of the Political Committee of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly (NATO PA), according to the presidential press service.

Serzh Sargsyan welcomed the guests, noting that such visits give an opportunity to become acquainted with the problems and challenges facing Armenia and to discuss regional issues of mutual interest.

The president underlined the importance of cooperation with NATO at the parliamentary level. The interlocutors noted with satisfaction that the Armenian parliamentary delegation in the NATO PA takes an active part in activities of various committees.

Serzh Sargsyan highly appreciated efficient and constructive cooperation with NATO in all the spheres of partnership. In his words, the political dialog with the Alliance has been a continuous one: Armenia is actively involved in peacekeeping missions of NATO in Kosovo and Afghanistan, work on the establishment of the NATO Trust Fund is underway, etc.

The interlocutors said the level of these relations bears evidence of a deep and comprehensive agenda set up through close cooperation between Armenia and NATO, which considerably helps improve and modernize Armenia’s defense and security system.

During the meeting the sides also exchanged views on regional security issues, the Karabakh conflict settlement process, Armenian-Turkish relations, Armenia-EU cooperation, and the process of Armenia’s joining the Customs Union.
