Armenian president holds consultation at energy ministry

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyab visited today Ministry of Energy and Natural Resources where he held a consultation with top officials.

The minister, deputy ministers and other officials informed the Armenian president about the work done, the current tasks, and further plans. The president made comments and gave specific instructions.

When responding to the questions of those present, the president in particular touched upon the price formation of natural gas supplied to Armenia.

“We are all concerned about the gas price. Today it is already clear to everyone that under an agreement with Gazprom the gas price has been set for the next five years. The price is linked to Russian domestic prices, which will not rise at all or will rise by 5% at most annually. Foreign businessmen are also aware of that and, based on predictability of actions, they look into the issue of starting energy-consuming production in Armenia,’ S. Sargsyan said.

According to him, on the other hand people don’t understand why the price of gas in their apartments goes up if it is the cheapest at the border.

“We should speak about it. It is necessary to explain that unless we replace pipes and upgrade equipment, we will face serious problems. Investment is needed for undisturbed work. I am glad that a commission to examine the issue was set up in the parliament. It is a good opportunity to examine these issues. We have nothing to hide,” Serzh Sargsyan noted.

At the conclusion of the consultation several employees of the ministry received letters of thanks of the Armenian president.
