Serzh Sargsyan not to aspire to post of Armenian prime minister

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan has announced that that he will not aspire to the post of prime minister of the country.

“If as a result of discussions (on constitutional reforms – editor), a path not corresponding with my wish – I mean the parliamentary model of government – is adopted, then I will not aspire to the post of prime minister as well,” Serzh Sargsyan said at the meeting with members of the specialized commission on constitutional reforms under the Armenian president.

Serzh Sargsyan said that at the current stage of development, the existing model of government is the most acceptable for Armenia, the presidential press service reported. The president also believes that in Armenia, a person in his lifetime should not aspire to high posts of governing the country more than twice.

The main clauses of the provisional version of the draft concept of the constitutional reforms in Armenia were presented to the Armenian president today by the head of the specialized commission on constitutional reforms under the Armenian president, Chairman of the Constitutional Court of Armenia Gagik Harutyunian. These clauses are mainly related to the guarantees of human rights and fundamental freedoms, the functional and institutional efficiency of the judicial branch, and the forms of governing the state and holding elections.
