Iraq's deputy prime minister survives assassination attempt

Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Salih al-Mutlaq and another lawmaker survived an assassination attempt in Baghdad on Friday, security officials told CNN.

Iraqi police said the officials' convoy was ambushed by a group of gunmen with light weapons.

One of al-Mutlaq's bodyguards died in the attack, and five others were injured.

Al-Mutlaq and the lawmaker, Talal al-Zobaie of the Iraqiya coalition, are both Sunnis.
