Arthur Baghdasarian: OEK Party wants to change something in country

Orinats Yerkir Party (OEK) left the coalition because it wants to change something in the country, OEK leader Arthur Baghdasarian, who has resigned as Secretary of Armenia’s National Security Council, said at a press conference today.

He spoke about the reasons why OEK Party’s political board took a decision to leave the ruling coalition.

“Our possibilities to influence the decision making process were limited. We have tried for six years to increase our role, but we failed,” A. Baghdasarian said.

The OEK leader thanked its former partner in the ruling coalition – the Republican Party of Armenia (HHK).

“There is HHK that constitutes an absolute majority. I wish them success,” Baghdasarian said.

As regards the resignation of former Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan and the government headed by him, A. Baghdasarian said that although some OEK representatives were members of that government, the government resignation is well-founded and even belated because ‘the former government failed to carry out its tasks”.

Baghdasarian reminded those present that Armenia’s government forecast 7% economic growth.

“The party’s ratings fell after it made part of the coalition, whereas we entered the coalition for people and we are leaving it today also for people. We want freedom. People always strive for freedom,” Baghdasarian noted.

He did not rule out that he may run for president in the 2018 elections.
