Meeting of presidents of Russia and Armenia held in Moscow

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and Russian President Vladimir Putin discussed topical issues of Armenian-Russian cooperation at a meeting in Moscow, according to the official website of the Russian president.

V. Putin thanked S. Sargsyan for visiting Russia on the eve of May 9. He congratulated S. Sargsyan and the Armenian people on the approaching holiday – Victory Day.

“Since my visit to Armenia much work has been done to carry out the agreements reached during the visit. I am glad to have the opportunity to synchronize our watches today and see what else can be done to accelerate the pace of joint work.

In any case I am glad to note that Russia remains Armenia’s leading trade and economic partner, with the turnover of commodities increasing by 11% (10.6%) last year compared to the previous year. This year the positive rates and positive dynamics of an increase in commodity turnover remain just as Russia retains first place as an investor in the Armenian economy,” V. Putin said.

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan for his part thanked the Russian counterpart for the invitation to visit Moscow as part of the meeting of heads of CSTO member states and for the opportunity to discuss together the most urgent issues of interstate relations. He congratulated V. Putin and the Russian people on the Great Victory.

“I am glad that Russian-Armenian strategic relations, strategic partnership is dynamically developing. We will continue to do our best to deepen these relations.

The agreements reached during your state visit and at the September 3 meeting in Moscow have certainly enriched our agenda. And the implementation of these agreements will create new opportunities of close cooperation in all spheres: in foreign-policy, military-technical and economic spheres.

We are ready for active work. I think this is in line with the historical traditions of the friendship between our peoples and in line with the will of our peoples so we are ready,” Serzh Sargsyan said.
