Serzh Sargsyan meets with Armenian Catholicoses

Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan met today with Catholicos of All Armenians Karekin II, Catholicos of the Holy See of Cilicia Aram I, and Armenian Catholic Patriarch of Cilicia Nerses Petros XIX, according to the presidential press service.

Issues related to close cooperation existing between the state and the Church were discussed at the meeting. The interlocutors spoke about the important role of the Armenian Apostolic Church in the preservation of the Armenian identity and the efforts made by the Catholicosates, Dioceses and church structures for resolution of the national problems. They stressed the participation of the Armenian Apostolic Church and the Armenian Catholic Church in the activities of the Armenian president-headed state commission for coordination of the events dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The importance of work done by Armenian churches in the Diaspora, in international and inter-church arenas in order to deal with national problems was underlined.

S. Sargsyan and the Catholicoses discussed the current state of Syrian Armenians due to the Syrian crisis and the issues concerning their assistance.

The meeting participants were unanimous that the unity of the Armenian people is a guarantee of the welfare of the Armenians around the world and successful resolution of the challenges facing them. They stressed the need to consolidate efforts aimed at solving the national problems.
